Shell Shock

ShellShock2_wmI bought Hematite quite awhile ago thinking it would fit easily into one of the many mala’s I’m creating. Never really finding the right combination I had un-strung them in to a bowl and put them to the side. While working on another piece I had the Natural Shell out and wound up putting a few beads in with the Hematite. I instantly fell in love.

I quickly finished up the other mala I was working on and began this one. Beautiful blue against the chrome color of Hematite adds a striking contrast.

It took me awhile to start using it and the first time I wore it it felt super heavy. At first, I didn’t like the weight around my neck and I’ve worn it on my wrist a couple of times. It wasn’t until I was going in to a stressful situation that it called to me.

Having to confront a family member is always hard, especially when they are close and you want to maintain your relationship. You know in order for you both to grow something’s gotta give and it’s not likely the other person will be the first person to offer an olive branch, especially since they don’t realize they are hurting you. As I thought of what I was preparing to do, I was attracted to this particular mala and remembered what the properties were. Hematite is used to absorb toxic emotions and clear away negative feelings while helping to ground me and keep me balanced. I also thought natural shell in blue would help keep my words flowing with unconditional love and understanding. Blue represents the Throat Chakra and helps me to open up and remember to use a higher quality of language so that the other person hears the true message coming from my heart.

As I was putting it on I asked my guides to create a perfect situation so that my family member and I could address my issues and both come out feeling better about the situation and our relationship. I had already considered cutting ties and knew from previous experience that wasn’t the answer. I was looking for a way to maintain the relationship without the toxicity and constantly compromising my heart. It was 10 minutes in to my visit when an opportunity presented itself. I could have easily dismissed it and continued to play victim but I remembered my prayer earlier in the morning. Instantly I felt my mala around my neck and somehow found the courage to start a conversation of different sorts.

After many much needed tears and a long hug I think we both felt much better about the situation. The constant theme with this mala is “In order to make good choices, people need to have good information.” And in order for the other person to have good information on which to base their choice, I must speak honestly and from the heart. I figured if I speak my truth and she doesn’t respond with love, then I will have to decide if I want to cut ties again. If she does respond with love, then I will be open to receiving what ever message she is trying to get across and adjust accordingly.

Since that experience went so well, I now use this as my power mala. My go-to in tough situations like funerals and heavy family situations or tough conversations with strong emotions. If you’re a couples therapist, a caretaker, a public speaker, if you work with clients, or work in the service industry… you might want to add these crystals to your arsenal. They have helped me out of some very emotional conversations to see past the ego’s and get to the true message. As always,

Below are links for the different types of stones used in the mala.

Black Jade Guru bead – It is balancing if certain members are dominant, clever with words or manipulative. Black Jade lends the courage and fortitude needed to examine one’s own negativity and its source, and to “face the shadow self.”

Blue Shell  Abalone healing is especially helpful for those going through emotional turmoil or those having a hard time dealing with a situation in a relationship. Shell promotes cooperation between the self and others, as well as within the self.  It provides cohesive energy for groups.

Hematite This stone’s energy is earthy, and it is one of the best stones that you can use to harness the power of the element of earth to lend you strength and dispel negativity.
